KAO-POTAMIA — ANCIENT WORDS ON MODERN CLAY

KAO-POTAMIA is our original collection inspired by cuneiform, the world’s earliest known writing system, born in ancient Mesopotamia. Each mark is carved into wet clay by hand. The result is not a replica, but a contemporary functional object carrying the rhythm and memory of ancient writing.

The softly rounded form is intentionally sculptural and slightly asymmetrical. Its sloping rim changes the silhouette from every angle. Outside, the warm off-white stoneware is matte, tactile and densely carved, then lightly finished with an aged brown patina that settles into the marks. Inside, a smooth antique-white glaze catches the light and makes the bowl suitable for serving food.

Six individually handmade bowls are currently available. For every order of one to five bowls, we will photograph all pieces available at that time and send the images through Etsy Messages so you can choose the exact form or forms you prefer.

If we do not receive a reply within 48 hours, we will carefully select the most distinctive and beautifully balanced piece or pieces for your order, so dispatch is not delayed.

Every bowl is carved and glazed by hand. Small variations in shape, carving, colour and surface are intentional signs of the making process and ensure that no two pieces are identical.

CARE

Hand wash with a soft sponge to protect the carved surface. Not recommended for dishwasher, microwave or oven use.

The KAO-POTAMIA concept is designed and made exclusively by Kaolyn Ceramics. Every vessel is shaped, carved, glazed and fired by our own hands in our studio.
